Leach and Burkart lift UNC to walkoff win in home opener

The Bears hadn't been able to record a three-up, three-down inning all game, following the Burkart RBI in the fifth UNC retired six-straight Bison batters and didn't allow them to score for the remainder of the game.
On the flip side, UNC scored a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Jordan Medina picked up his first college RBI with a sacrifice fly and Billy Moreland singled in the Bears fourth run with two outs in the inning.
Again, with two out UNC struck for two more runs when Leach picked up his first clutch hit of the game driving in a pair of runs that tied the game headed to the eighth.
Leach was clutch late, but without the early inning sparks provided by Matt, Zoba UNC wouldn't have had a chance to walk it off. The sophomore second basemen scored the Bears first two runs and finished with two hits, a double and a stolen base.
Sam Colehower picked up the win, but much like Zoba kept the offense in the game Karver Pate gave the Bears pitching a chance to stay alive. Pate relieved Brennen Lauffenberger who struggled with his control over three innings walking five, Pate and Colehower combined to issue just two free passes over six innings.

- Burkart had a double, triple and RBI.
- Leach finished with three hits and three RBIs.
- Pate went four innings and allowed two runs on four hits and struck out two.
- Colehower got the W, he went two innings and didn't allow a hit or run.
UNC and NDSU are right back at it tomorrow at noon for the first game of a doubleheader.
