Northern Colorado fell in the final game of the tournament to Central Florida
PUERTO VALLARTA, Mex.- Northern Colorado softball ended its time in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, dropping the final game to UCF, 7-0.
UNC could not get its offense going and was out hit by the Knights 11 to three. The Bears also suffered from three errors that contributed to the loss.
UCF took control of the game in the top of the third inning, scoring five runs on five hits off UNC starter Valerie Vidal. The Knights five-run inning gave them a 6-0 lead over the Bears in the game.
In the top of the sixth, UCF added another run on a UNC fielding error to extend the lead to 7-0.
The Knights pitcher Breanna Vasquez also kept the UNC batters in check, holding the Bears hitless until Kenzie Kudrna double to left field in the bottom of the sixth. After the double, Maddee Blood-Smyth would single to left field, but Kurdrna was thrown out at home.
Vasquez allowed a pinch-hit double from Taylor Puga in the bottom of the seventh, but closed out the Bears on the next batter.
UNC dropped all four games in Puerto Vallarta and the overall record dropped to 1-8 on the season.
Valerie Vidal and Kenzie Kudrna were both named to the All-Tournament Team.Â

Northern Colorado will travel to the west coast next weekend(2/22-24) for the Silicon Valley Classic, where the team will play games against Ball State, Utah State, along with San Jose State and Santa Clara who are co-hosting the tournament.

- Vidal took the loss, falling to 1-6 on the season. Vidal pitched a complete game, allowing six earned runs, 11 hits, while striking out six and walking one.
- Kudrna went four-for-11 with one double and four strikeouts during the tournament.
- The Bears were out hit 47 to 13 during the weekend in Puerto Vallarta.
