Northern Colorado men's cross country earned a top five finish on Saturday
The Northern Colorado men's cross country team made some history on Saturday earning their best finish at the Big Sky Championship taking fifth place. The Bears edged out Idaho for the top five finish by one point, 148-149. On the women's side, UNC finished in 11th place.
UNC played host to the Championship at Boomerang Golf Course. While conditions were not the best as the course had plenty of ice and snow on it from this week's snowstorm it didn't slow down the Bears.
Three UNC men finished in the top 25, led by senior Stephen Haas who crossed the finish line at 27:52.3. Teammates Josh Campbell and Isaia Remington finished one after the other with times of 28:16.6 and 28:17.8 to finish 23rd and 24th. The three finishing in the top 25 turned out to be the difference to help the Bears earn a top five team finish. For all three it was their best-ever finish at the Big Sky Championship.
Jeremy Romero and Ryan Lehmuth were the final two Bears to score for UNC with Romero earning a 39th place finish (28:43.0) and Lehmuth in 45th (28:56.1).
On the women's side, Northern Colorado was led by sophomore Emily Wilson who finished in 44th place with a time of 20:00.02. The young women's team will be able to take the experience of a championship event with them moving forward as they ran a group of one sophomore and four freshmen on Saturday.
