Bears open Cross Country Season on Saturday

GREELEY, Colo.— Making the short trip north across the state line, the University of Northern Colorado women's and men's cross country teams will open the 2022 season this Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Wyoming Invite.
Hosted by the University of Wyoming on the Little America Golf Course, the women's 5,000-meter race will begin at 9 a.m. while the men's 5,000 will take place at 9:30 a.m.
The UNC women's team will feature seven returners and three newcomers. Leading the way for the Bears will be Julia Brown, Shantell Hafner, Summer Olson, and Chloe Rylance. Looking to make an impact during the cross country campaign after joining the squad during the 2021 track & field season will be Regina Mpigachai.
In addition to four newcomers to the program, the UNC men's team will feature three returners in Jesse Hayward, Colton Magnuson, and Isaac Rascon.
Wayne Angell enters his fourth season as the head cross country coach at UNC in 2022.
The Bears will have a hiatus next weekend before toeing the line at the University of Nebraska's Greeno/Dirksen Invite on Sept. 17. This year's Big Sky Cross Country Championships will take place in Cheney, Washington on Oct. 28.
