UNC men’s cross country earned a top 10 finish at the highly competitive Arturo Barrios Invitational
College Station, Texas - Led by a top 49 individual finish from senior Stephen Haas, Northern Colorado men's cross country team placed 10th out of 26 teams at the Arturo Barrios Invitational Saturday morning. This marks the conclusion of the regular season for the Bears as they prepare for the Big Sky Championship in Greeley in less than two weeks.Â
"I thought this was our best performance to date as a team," stated director of track and field and cross country Wayne Angel. "We raced as a well synchronized unit with a spread of 23 seconds between our first and fifth man, it was the lowest spread among all participating teams today," Angel stated. "We communicated very effectively throughout the race and kept everyone in a tight knit pack, no one was left behind. Our seniors stepped up big time today and led the team to a top 10 finish."
Stephen Haas clocked in at 24:54 placing 49th overall. Sophomore Ryan Lehmuth was the next Bear across with a time of 24:56 for 51st place.
UNC senior Jeremy Romero finished 55th in 24:59, while seniors Isaiah Remington (25:06) and Josh Campbell (25:17) completed the top 5 finishing 65th and 79th, respectively.Â
Other Bear finishers included Jesse Hayward (25:40)Â and Cameron Ross (27:37)
"I'm so proud of these young men, they demonstrated today what a few highly motivated Bears can do when presented with a challenge," Angel stated. "We beat eight Regionally ranked teams from the SEC, Big 12, Sunbelt, Southland and Conference USA Today. We are definitely peaking at the right time. I'm so excited for both of our teams, our hard work is finally starting to pay off."
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado hosts the Big Sky Championship on Saturday, November 2 at Boomerang Golf Course.
