All five runners for UNC women's cross country set PRs on Friday
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – In their final tune-up before hosting the Big Sky Championship in two weeks, Northern Colorado's women's cross country competed in the Blazer Classic on Friday morning. The Bears turned in an impressive performance as all five runners recorded personal bests in the race.
UNC finished in 15th place as a team out of 24 teams competing on the women's side.
Emily Wilson led the way for UNC finishing the 6k race with a time of 22:08.11 to take 59th place individually. Alison Zigler finished in the top 100 as well for the Bears with a time of 22:59.62.
The three other Bears competing and setting a new PR were Anya Tkachenko (23:19.51), Lillian Baxter (24:20.74) and Aleigha Street (25:26.05).
What They Said
"Today was the day we needed, we had some incredible breakthroughs and the best performances of the year. Each of the girls had personal best runs for their 6k races. Our top finisher for the team, Emily Wilson, was healthy this meet scoring higher and having a four minute difference from two weeks ago to this week in racing," assistant cross country and track and field coach Stormie Sickler said. "We had an average of three minutes and 15 seconds personal bests for the season. We had several lifetime personal bests as well! This was the breakthrough that the girls really needed before heading into the last two weeks of training before the Big Sky Conference Championship hosted by us on November 2nd. Proud is an understatement to describe how I feel about the team's performances! We are stronger, faster, and hungrier than we have been all season."
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado now has two weeks to prepare for the Big Sky Championship on November 2. The Bears will be hosting the championship at Boomerang Golf Course in Greeley with the women's race starting at 10 am and men's at 11 am.
