FARGO, ND. – After the opening 45 minutes produced 11 shots, seven of which came from Northern Colorado, the second half played had slowed. That was until Lexi Pulley found the back of the net for her second goal of the season, which was enough to help the Bears even their record with a 1-0 win over North Dakota State.
UNC turned the tables on the home team by firing four shots, two by Maddie Roberts, at the NDSU keeper in the final 10 minutes keeping the pressure on the Bison and off their own defense.
The Bears started the match much the way they ended it, by attacking. They had four shots in the first 20 minutes, including two by Pulley. They outshot NDSU 7-4 in the first half and 16-7 for the game. UNC got six shots on goal while holding the Bison to half that number.
Roberts, Pulley and Taylor Bray all led UNC with three shots. The trio combined for four of the six shots on net.
Northern Colorado will take the 'scenic' four-hour trip down I-29 to Vermillion, South Dakota where they will face the Coyotes Sunday morning at 11 a.m. USD is 1-1-2 on the season and hasn't played since beating Chicago State on Aug. 26.
"Overall it was a good win for the Bears on the road," said UNC head coach Tim Barrera. "We moved the game up for possible storms and the sun came up. We ended up using everyone except the other keeper and I believe that was the difference today. We got really good performances by a lot of players."
In the first 26 minutes of the second half, North Dakota State was unable to get a ball in the direction of Taylor Washington. In the 10 minutes following the Pulley goal, the Bison sent three shots Washington's way and forced her to make a stop on two of them. NDSU also came at the Bears defense with a pair of corner kicks, neither helped them get on the scoreboard.UNC turned the tables on the home team by firing four shots, two by Maddie Roberts, at the NDSU keeper in the final 10 minutes keeping the pressure on the Bison and off their own defense.
