Head coach Shana Easley is stepping down as the head coach at UNC to take a job at Arkansas
GREELEY, Colo.— Northern Colorado softball head coach, Shana Easley, will depart the program to take a volunteer assistant coaching position at the University of Arkansas. Easley returns to her alma mater, where she was a four-year starter at catcher and was the Razorbacks Director of Operations for two seasons following graduation.
"We appreciate Shana's efforts to continue to build the Northern Colorado softball program over the past five years," Director of Athletics Darren Dunn said. "I want to thank Coach Easley for her commitment to Northern Colorado softball and the athletic department during her time here. We like to wish her and her family the best of luck moving forward."
Easley arrived at UNC in 2012 and compiled a 110-183-2 overall record, 46-65 in the conference during her five seasons at the helm of the program. The Bears would qualify for the Big Sky Tournament twice under Easley; in 2014 and 2018.
The 2018 season was Easley's most successful at UNC and was arguably one of the best seasons in program history. The Bears played a record 56 games and won a program-best 28 since moving up to Division I. UNC picked up its first wins in program history at the Big Sky Tournament after upsetting No. 2 Weber State and No. 3 North Dakota. The Bears had a chance to win the Big Sky Tournament against Sacramento State but fell short.
The Bears made their first postseason tournament since the move to Division I when they hosted the National Invitational Softball Tournament. UNC dropped two games in the tournament to end its season.
Northern Colorado will immediately begin a national search for its next head softball coach.
