Greeley, Colo - Northern Colorado Softball takes on Colorado State Tuesday at Gloria Rodriguez Field. Tuesday's match-up marks the fourth and final time the Rams and Bears will meet in 2017.
The in-state rivalry also marks our initiative in helping the campus-wide Bear Pantry Drive. Monetary as well as non-perishable foods and toiletries will be collected throughout the contest.
Scouting the Bears (16-29, 4-8 Big Sky)
- Northern Colorado continues to lead the Big Sky Conference in home runs with 33 on the year.

- At 467 assists, no other team in the conference has equaled the Bears' performance defensively, the next closest is North Dakota with 425.
- Erica Dick leads the team in batting average (.376), doubles (12), triples (3), RBI (29) and slugging (.631).
- In her last 10 games, Kaley Garcia is batting .385 at the plate with three runs, four doubles and a .448 on base percentage.Â
Scouting the Rams (21-15, 7-7 Mtn West)
- Amber Nelson leads the Rams with a  .427 batting average, second best in the conference and 28th best in the nation.
- CSU has only grounded into four double plays throughout 2017.
- Since Northern Colorado and Colorado State last met, the Rams have gone 1-2, playing only one series against Utah State.
- Colorado State and UNC have two common opponents this season. the Rams have gone 2-2 in match-ups against New Mexico and Weber State. Northern Colorado is 3-3 versus those same teams.
- Larissa Petakoff bolsters a 2.04 ERA in 19 appearances in 2017 with three shutouts and two saves.
Who to Watch For
Jordyn Wiatrak - In her three previous games against Colorado State, Wiatrak has gone 2-6 (.333) at the plate with three walks, a double and a home run fro a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on base percentage of .556.
Last Time Out
Northern Colorado just wrapped up a conference series against Montana over the week. Despite some stellar pitching on Friday from senior, Jayme Reddacliff, UNC fell in all three games of the series.Â
Last Time vs. CSU
Exactly a week ago, Colorado State took two games from the Bears, one finishing up a contest that had originally began on February 28, but was postponed due to snow. The Bears are 5-31 against CSU all-time. Their last victory came via 9-8 score back in 2014.
Wiatrak Power
Jordyn Wiatrak launched her 10th home run of the season over the weekend. Wiatrak remains just one long-ball behind the conference leader, Delene Colburn. The sophomore is also just three shy of a program single-season record.
How Are Your Vidals?
Since the beginning of Big Sky play, Valerie Vidal has allowed the least amount of hits among qualified pitchers. The sophomore has also allowed the fourth least amount of runs in BSC play.
Double Trouble
In conference play, Erica Dick and and Kaley Garcia rank first and fourth, respectively in total doubles. No other tandem in the Big Sky equals their total of 10.
Walk This Way
In her career, Erica Dick has been given 74 free passes. Dick is now just four walks away from breaking the program career record.Â
In Defense We Trust
Northern Colorado has tallied 841 put outs thus far in 2017, good enough for second in the Big Sky Conference. Their mark is also on pace to break the 2012 single-season record of 1,035.
Assisted Living
Shana Easley's pitching staff won't set any records in strikeouts this year, but neither her nor her players really care. Trusting their defense more than ever, UNC leads the Big Sky Conference with 467 assists. With more than 12 games, left in the season, the team is on track to break the 2014 single-season record of 512.
Â
New Year New Staff
Head coach Shana Easley has hired assistant coaches, Travis Owen and Kaelene Curry over the offseason. Owen arrives from a successful Radford program and Curry makes her second stint as part of UNC's staff, arriving from Sonoma State.Â
New Kids on the Block
UNC adds three new faces to the program in 2017. Hunter Damico, Autumn Anderson and Sophia Taylor all arrive in Greeley looking to make an impact in their freshmen campaigns.
Seeing Triple
Last season, Northern Colorado and Erica Dick led the nation in triples per game by a team and by a player, respectively with .43 and .40.
Early Signing Success
UNC ventured out into four different states to sign new recruits during the early signing period in November. Natalie Joyner (Wash.), Mady Young (Kan.), Ally Steiner (Ariz.) and Emma Brockman (Ore.) will all arrive on campus next season.Â
Frequent Flyers
The Bears will spend the first month of the season traveling the Southwestern part of the United States. Tournaments in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas keep UNC busy before coming home on March 7 against Colorado State.
Record Watch
2017 could be a monumental year for Erica Dick. The senior ranks top-10 in UNC history in 10 career categories. Dick has already scored more runs than anyone in Bear history with 123 and counting.
Â
Recent Renovations
On top of renaming Butler-Hancock Softball Field to Gloria Rodriguez Field, UNC Softball will welcome a brand new scoreboard and backstop. Renovations to the facility continue with eyes on new dugouts as the next project.
