Comeback Falls Short for @BearsSoftball

Pueblo, Colo – Northern Colorado and New Mexico met for one last time in Pueblo, Colorado, Sunday afternoon. The Bears dug themselves too deep of a hole early and weren't able to climb out of it, falling to the Lobos, 9-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
New Mexico jumped on top of starting pitcher, Jayme Reddacliff early. The Lobos combined for three hits, and on top of a Northern Colorado error, scored two runs to take the early lead.
A quiet bottom half of the inning offensively, gave UNM a chance to add on top of their early advantage. A lead-off triple put a Lobo runner just sixty feet away with nobody out. Before the Bears' defense could pull off the third out of the inning, New Mexico had grabbed another four hits and two more runs.
Again, UNC bats stayed quiet, while New Mexico's were roaring. The ladies from Albuquerque scored their third consecutive two-run inning, putting the Bears in the hole, 6-0.
In the top of the fourth inning, with Kelli Kleis on the rubber in place of Reddacliff, she was able to quiet the Lobos for the first time Sunday afternoon. Although two runners reached base safely, second base was as far as Kleis would allow them to advance, ending the inning with a fielder's choice.
Northern Colorado finally got on the board in the bottom half of the frame, after a lead-off single and a fielding error put Kenzie Kudrna on second base. Rachel Johnson then continued her promising weekend performance, ringing a double to score Kudrna and cut into the Lobo lead. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, the New Mexico pitcher wasn't able to stab the ball out of the air on a Cheyenne Talmadge line drive, and when the dust settled, UNC had brought themselves within four.
Kleis watched as New Mexico would load the bases in the fifth inning, bringing tension to the Bear faithful on hand to watch the weekend's contests. Unlike her counterpart, Kleis was able to field the circle well, recording the innings' final out with her own putout.
Riding the momentum, the women in Blue and Gold continued to show signs of life on offense. Quickly, the Bears loaded the bases with no one out. Tragedy struck when Jordyn Wiatrak lined one straight at the pitcher, who doubled up Rachel Johnson standing at first. However, Lauren Paige brought in Kudrna and Erica Dick in the next at-bat to salvage two runs.
With the pressure mounting and the Lobo lead shrinking, Kelli Kleis tried her best to quiet the UNM offense for another inning. New Mexico would mount another attack, though, loading the bases, scoring three and forcing head coach, Shana Easley to call upon her freshmen, Autumn Anderson in to pitch. Anderson promptly sat down the subsequent New Mexico batters, keeping the damage to a minimum.
In what seemed like a bases loaded bonanza, the Bears were able to do it once more in the bottom of the sixth inning. However, UNC was left with only one run, thanks to a duo of sharp outfield plays from New Mexico.
While the early and middle parts of the contest were full of excitement and run scoring, the seventh inning proved to be the exact opposite. Three up and three down for both sides left the Bears on the wrong end of the 9-5 score.
