UNC women's tennis returned to action Sunday picking up a 5-2 win
GREELEY – The Northern Colorado women's tennis team returned to action after a two week break Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over Big Sky foe North Dakota. UNC improves to 5-5 on the season, and 2-2 in the Big Sky.
The Bears jumped out to the 1-0 lead by earning the doubles point thanks to victories from the No. 2 pairing of Anna Battersby and Marissa Baca and No. 3 pairing of Ella Mora and Courtney Schulte, both by the score of 6-4.
Northern Colorado went on to earn the win by taking four of the six singles matches.
Battersby, Mora and Schulte were three of the four Bears to pick up singles wins as well. All three won their matches at No. 1. No. 4 and No. 6 singles in straight sets.
Senior Beth Coton secured the win for UNC at the No. 2 spot in a tough three set battle with North Dakota's Preethi Kasilingam. Coton took the first set 6-4 before dropping the second 6-3, but responded with a 6-3 win in the third.
"We had a good win today against a solid North Dakota team," said head coach Brenda Gallegos. "I'm proud of our efforts today and feel like we are moving in the right direction!"
The Bears will be back in action on Friday when they host another Big Sky opponent in Northern Arizona. That match is scheduled for 11 am at Work Out West, but may change if weather is nice enough to play outside at the Butler-Hancock Tennis Courts.
