2/4/2017 9:19:00 AM | Men's Tennis
GREELEY, Colo. – UNC Men's Tennis is preparing to play North Dakota on February 5th at 12:00pm. The match will take place at Work Out West in Greeley and is the second Big Sky opponent for the Bears this spring.
Men's Tennis (0-4, 0-1 Big Sky)
Last Season: UNC was able to grab the victory against North Dakota last season 5-2 in Grand Forks. They swept the Fighting Hawks in doubles and got straight set victories from current Connor Finerty and Hayden Cramer.
Need to Know: Despite an 0-4 record in matches so far this spring, the Bears have won the doubles point in two out of the four. Junior Connor Finerty has been steadily moving up the singles depth chart earning consecutive wins against Abilene Christian and Grand Canyon before losing a tight three set contest playing No. 1 singles versus Montana State.
Scouting North Dakota: The Fighting Hawks are 0-4 with losses coming against Minnesota (7-0), Northern Illinois (6-1), Creighton (7-0), and Omaha (6-1). Redshirt junior Dustin Britton will be the most difficult player to beat on UND. Playing number one singles, Britton has wins against Omaha and Northern Illinois this spring.
UND graduated three seniors last year, including Connor Oberle at No. 2 singles, David Bergstrom at No. 3 singles, and Joe Lee at No. 4 singles.
Worthless Stat: Tom Wynne is in his 26th season as head coach of North Dakota. He qualified for the NCAA tournament in 1976 and was inducted into the North Dakota Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.
