UNC Travels to Eastern Washington and Idaho this Weekend
GREELEY, Colo. – UNC women's tennis will be on the road this weekend, playing Big Sky Conference opponents Eastern Washington at 11:00 am on Saturday and Idaho at 10:00 am on Sunday. Last season, Northern Colorado lost a very close match with Eastern Washington 4-3 and lost to Idaho 6-1. The Bears will be looking to turn those scores around this weekend as they search for their first road win of the spring.
Women's Tennis (2-3, 0-1 Big Sky)
Last Time Out: Northern Colorado dropped its first Big Sky conference match of the spring 1-6 to Montana State on Sunday. Despite the loss, the Bears did win all three doubles matches and came close to winning in a couple of singles spots. Marissa Baca lost at No. 4 singles in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 and Lily Ana Kreutzer lost 7-6(3), 7-6(2) in a pair of tiebreakers.
Need to Know: Marissa Baca and Anna Battersby kept their unbeaten streak in doubles alive with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot against Montana State. They are now 3-0 on the season.
Scouting Eastern Washington: The Eagles have had a rough start to their season (0-6) and are still seeking their first victory. Their closest match came against Seattle last weekend, losing 5-2. The team is made up of three seniors, two juniors, two sophomores, and two freshmen. Dustin Hinson is in his third year as head coach of the Eagles.
Scouting Idaho: The Vandals come into the weekend with a record of 4-2 (2-0 Big Sky). They played back-to-back matches last Saturday against Southern Utah and Youngstown State, winning both 4-0. Idaho has just one senior on their roster, Claire Yang from Taipei City, Taiwan.
Worthless Stat: The Bears last defeated Eastern Washington in 2015 on the road 4-3. UNC has never defeated Idaho in the Division I era.
