Big Weekend of Tennis Ahead for the Bears

GREELEY, Colo. – The 2017 spring season starts for both the UNC men's and women's tennis team, as they both are on the road this weekend.
Men's Tennis (0-0, 0-0 Big Sky)
The spring season starts this week down at the Air Force Academy. UNC Opens the years with a match against host Air Force, before taking on Abilene Christian in a neutral site match.
Last Season: Northern Colorado finished 6-16 overall last season and finished 10th in the conference with a 3-8 record.
Need to Know: Freshman Kyle Pease had a strong fall season, going 6-4 overall, finishing second in a pair of tournaments.
Good to Know: The Bears are under the coaching leadership of alumni Ben Gendron this year. Gendron was a two-time All-Big Sky member during his playing career. UNC men's tennis was predicted to finish 10th in the Big Sky Pre-season poll.
Scouting Air Force: Last season, Air Force finished the season 7-18 overall. The Falcons were 2-5 in conference action and earned the sixth seed in the 2016 Mountain West Men's Championship, its best seed and record since 2005. Freshmen David Mottice and Mack Galvin, along with junior Max Olson, tied for the team lead with 10 singles wins in fall competition. Mottice and Olson were 10-5 in tournament play, while Galvin was 10-6. Senior Lucas Fumagalli posted a 9-6 mark. Mottice and sophomore Isaac Perez led the way in doubles, teaming up for a 9-5 mark. Dan Oosterhous is in his eighth season as the men's tennis coach at Air Force Academy after being named the program's 12th head coach October 1, 2009.
Scouting Abilene Christian: Abilene Christian put together a strong performance in late January 2016. They beat Air Force 5-2 and blanked Northern Colorado 7-0, before knocking off nationally ranked UC Davis, 4-3. Last week, the Wildcats started their spring season with 7-0 losses to No. 4 Texas, SMU, and No. 12 Oklahoma. Their best performance came from the No. 1 doubles team of Agritelley and Sheehy, who picked up a victory against Texas 6-4.

Northern Colorado's women's tennis team starts 2017 spring season traveling over to face Colorado on Saturday.
Last Season: UNC topped out last season with an 8-12 record overall and 4-7 Big Sky record.
Need to Know: One of the best doubles pairs in the Big Sky returns this season for UNC in Beth Coton and Remi Immler. Last season the duo was ranked in the ITA Top-40.
Good to Know: The team was picked to finish eighth in the Big Sky in the preseason poll that was released last week.
Scouting Colorado: The Buffs kicked off their spring season by playing in the Indiana Invitational, a three-day tournament over January 14-16th. They fared well all three days against opponents including Abilene Christian, Indiana, and Marquette, finishing with more wins than losses in both singles and doubles. Nicole Keneally enters her 18th season as head coach of Colorado women's tennis. She ranks second in school history among women's tennis coaches in victories (169) and third all-time among men's and women's tennis coaches.
