@UNC_TrackField Sends Three to NCAA West Regionals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee has announced the participants for the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships preliminary competitions. The preliminary competitions are scheduled for May 26 - 28.
The west region is at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. The qualifiers out of these regions compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon.
Northern Colorado will be sending three competitors to the Rock Chalk State in Alisha Allen, Moriah Zachary and Alex Wesley.
To qualify, the athletes had to hold a top 48 declared time in the west region. The top 12 finishers in the west will advance to the NCAA National Championship, along with the top 12 finishers in the east, for a field of 24 to compete for All-American status and a national title.
Allen will be competing in the long jump, where she is seeded 20th with her best mark of the year of 6.16m.
Zachary qualified for the 200m dash and heads into the regional ranked 42nd overall. Zachary's best time of the season was 23.79 seconds.
Wesley is coming off his second straight 400m Big Sky Conference title, breaking the tape with a personal record of 46.28 seconds.
The time was not only a new stadium record, but broke the UNC program record by half a second set back in 2006 by Mike Busch.
Wesley's time currently sits as the 16th fastest heading into next week's competition.
HOW TO QUALIFY FOR NATIONALS:
200m Dash and 400m Dash:Â Both events will be broken up into six heats of eight competitors each for the first round. The top three finishers in each heat plus the next six best times will advance to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinals will be split into three heats and the top three finishers in each heat plus the next three best times will advance to the NCAA National Championships.
Long Jump:Â Two pits long jump, with the Top 12 overall finishers moving on to the finals at the University of Oregon.
