LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Northern Colorado track and field season came to a close on Saturday at the NCAA West Regionals at the University of Kansas' Rock Chalk Park.
UNC had three athletes qualify for the meet in Alisha Allen, Alex Wesley and Moriah Zachary.
The weekend was filled with unpredictable weather conditions which caused the first day of competition to be suspended.
Due to the inclement weather, all running events were automatically ran as a quarterfinal with the heat winner and the next six fastest times advancing to Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA Championships.
Wesley clocked in with another sub-47 second finish, coming in second overall in his heat with a time of 46.97. He finished 15th overall in the 48-member field, missing out on his ticket to Eugene by just three places.
The sophomore capped off a strong season with his second straight 400m outdoor conference title, as well as breaking the outdoor program record in the event.
The weather also forced the jumping events to be conducted indoors and delayed them by an entire day.
Allen, a senior, competing in the NCAA regional for the second year in a row, finished out her career with a jump of 5.60m (18-04.50). She finished 39th in the event.
"With all the last minute changes, cancellations and rescheduling it's been hard to get into a warm up or competitive routine," head coach Amanda Schick said. "Alisha today started warming up on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and due to the circumstances didn't even jump until 8:00 p.m., and they moved the event inside. She handled herself with great poise and mental toughness, unfortunately the result just wasn't where it needed to be. To be a senior and leave on a meet that didn't meet your expectations can be hard, she is an amazing young lady who has forever shaped me as a coach and helped push this program to a higher level. I will miss her so much, and want to thank her for these past four years."
Allen leaves UNC as the program's record holder in both the indoor and outdoor long jump and triple jump. She was also a part of the 4x400 relay team that set the school record in 2014.
Zachary's event, the 200m dash, was held on the final day of competition. The junior clocked in a 24.25 seconds. Her time ranked her 42nd overall.
Zachary's 2016 outdoor campaign concluded with the third fastest time (11.69) in the 100m dash in UNC history and the second fastest time (23.94) in the 200m.
