SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Northern Colorado (4-24, 0-6 Big Sky) is still in search of its first Big Sky and home win of the season. UNC dropped all three games at Weber State last weekend to fall to 0-6 in league play.
- Second baseman Sarah Fitzherbert was the only player to record a hit in all three games against the Wildcats. Fitzherbert went 1-2 in games one and three and 1-3 in the second game of the series.
- The Bears were shutout in the series finale at WSU, dropping the game 10-0. It was the eighth time this year the team had been held scoreless, but was the first time in nine games.
- Shortstop Erica Dick and left fielder Madi Schmidt are the two players on the team with above .300 batting averages. Dick paces the team with a .386, while Schmidt holds a .325 average. The duo combines for 22 of the team's 69 RBI on the season.
- Dick and Schmidt have also combined for eight triples this season, ranking Dick no.1 with five and Schmidt no. 2 with 3 in the Big Sky.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
- Sacramento State (15-15, 5-1) heads to Greeley with a .500 overall record, but a 5-1 record in league play. The team's only loss against a Big Sky opponent was against Montana, falling 9-2.
- The Hornets have picked up series wins against the Griz and North Dakota in the early goings of conference play, but most recently dropped a non-conference game to Pacific (4-0) earlier this week.
- SSU's offensive threats are Sasha Margulies and Jessica Ravetti. Margulies is boasting a .398 average, while Ravetti leads the team in RBI with 18. Sac State has four players on the roster with 10 or more RBI on the season.
CHASING RECORDS
- Shortstop Erica Dick is just two home runs and four runs away from tying NCAA Division I career runs and HRs records. Dick currently has 21 career homers and 111 runs and could tie or break each record as early as this weekend. In the last nine games she's raised her batting average from .368 to .386 scoring eight runs and tallying six RBI.
ALL-TIME SERIES
- Northern Colorado has had a rough go of it against Sacramento State. SSU leads the overall series 10-2. The Bears two wins against the Hornets came in the 2013 and 2014 seasons, winning one game of each series. The last time Sac State visited Greeley they took the series 2-1, but UNC did earn a win in the Saturday finale, 8-1.
STREAKS
- UNC is currently on the wrong end of an eight-game losing skid. It's the second losing streak of eight games or more for the team this season. A 9-8 win over Utah State in extra innings snapped the Bears' nine-game skid earlier in the year.
- Senior second baseman, Sarah Fitzherbert also holds a streak. She's riding a six-game hitting streak coming into the weekend series, recording at least one hit in every league game thus far. The longest hitting streak of the year is seven games, done by left fielder Madi Schmidt.
WEEKEND FORECAST
- Northern Colorado will finally get to play in some warm weather at home. It will be in the 70's and sunny with minimal wind for all three games this weekend.
