GREELEY, Colo. – Men's basketball added to its post depth with the signing of Kai Edwards. Edwards is a 6"9', 215-lb player out of Gran Canaria, Spain.
Edwards originally hails from Amsterdam, Netherlands, but has been playing his basketball at the junior level in Spain.
Edwards has been at the Carias Basketball Academy, playing under CBA president, Rob Orellana.
"Kai demonstrates to all our other players that if you put forth the effort good things will happen," Orellana said. "Also, this shows that CBA Amsterdam/ BC Apollo and CBA are working great together in helping Dutch players and Dutch basketball!"
The newest signee is most recently coming off an appearance at the 2016 League Autonomica final four playoffs where he led the team and started every game for them throughout the playoffs.
"Kai is a great addition to the Bear family. He has a nervous energy to him that you don't see very often in guys his size," head coach B.J. Hill said. "He plays with an extremely high motor on a daily basis and I believe his best basketball is in front of him. He was a top level tennis player and only started playing basketball a few years ago. He has a body that Zach [Margolis] can easily add ten to fifteen pounds on this summer in our weight room. He has great hands and can really run and was coached at a high level for the past year at CBA by Rob Orellana and their staff. We are very appreciative of how seamless the CBA made the process to enable Kai to come to the University of Northern Colorado and achieve his dreams."
Edwards also played for the BC Apollo Amsterdam under18 team from 2013-15 and helped that team make an appearance in the semifinals of the playoffs.
In tennis, the commit was a part of the Dutch National Selection Teams and a carried a Top 10 Dutch national ranking until 2012.
He joins Miles Seward (Toronto, Montreal) as the second international player that will be on the roster.
