SCOUTING THE BEARS
- If Northern Colorado (4-27, 0-9 Big Sky) were to win all three games it would bring them back into the hunt for the sixth and final sport in the Big Sky Tournament. Southern Utah currently is in sixth with a 3-5 league record while UND is in seventh with a 1-6 record in the conference.
- The Bears put up a fight against Sacramento State in all three games, but SSU edged out the Bears 11-7, 8-5 and 4-1 to sweep UNC.
- Northern Colorado saw the ball well in the series hitting .308 as a team.
- Due to the hot bats, Lauren Paige boosted her average up to .303 and now has the second best BA on the team.
- UNC currently sports three players with 15 or more RBIs in Erica Dick, Lauren Paige and Rachel Johnson.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING HAWKS
- North Dakota (12-25, 1-6 Big Sky) is coming off a 9-3 win to end the series against Portland State. The Vikings took the series, but UND was able to take the finale and earn its first Big Sky win. The Fighting Hawks are currently 2-3 in their last five games.
- UND will play a non-conference game on April 13 against in-state rival North Dakota State before taking in the series with UNC.
- North Dakota has a similar offense to the Bears with two girls holding above .300 batting averages. Kaylin VanDomelen and Taylor Hansen are sporting .330 and .304 averages on the season. The Fighting Hawks do have five girls on the roster with 10 RBIs or more led by Hansen and Shelby Hard who both have 15 each.
HITTING STREAK
- Second baseman Sarah Fitzherbert had a weekend at the plate against Sac State. Fitzherbert was 5-12 (.416) with 4 RBIs boosting her season average from .257 to .279. She also extended her hit streak to nine games which is the longest hit streak for anyone on the team this year.
STUCK IN A CHASE FOR RECORDS
- For the last six games shortstop Erica Dick has been just two home runs and four runs away from tying the program's NCAA Division I career runs and HRs records. Dick currently has 21 career homers and 111 runs and could tie or break each record as early as this weekend. The last time she touched home plate came in the Montana series where she finished with three runs and one home run.
ALL-TIME SERIES
- Northern Colorado and UND's series dates back to 1999. The Bears hold the upper hand with a 16-9 series lead over the Fighting Hawks. Last season when North Dakota and Northern Colorado played the Bears earned a series sweep winning every game by five runs or more.
STILL A LOT OF GAMES LEFT
- UNC is currently on the wrong end of an 11-game losing skid. It's the second losing streak of eight- games or more for the team this season. A 9-8 win over Utah State in extra innings snapped the Bears' nine-game skid earlier in the year.
RELIEF DUTIES
- UNC got solid relief work in the circle in its last series against Sacramento State. Freshman Chandler Elsner threw three full innings throughout the three-game series, giving up just one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in 11 batters faced.
- Lauren Paige was also good for 3.1 innings of relief work in the series. Paige gave up just one run on four hits while walking one.
BRING AN UMBRELLA
- The weather may not be up to snuff in Grand Forks this weekend. Game times may change due to a forecast of rain on both Friday and Saturday. There is a 40% chance of p.m. showers on Friday and a 100% chance of rain on Saturday. Stay up to date with the game times at UNCBears.com
