@BearsSoftball Splits With Utah State, Ends Losing Skid

The Bears picked up a 9-8 extra innings victory on Saturday to take game one of the doubleheader.
The win over the Aggies snapped UNC's 10-game losing skid.
Game 1:
Northern Colorado plated six runs over the first five innings of the game, but still trailed 7-6 with two to play.
Rachel Johnson came up big for Northern Colorado in the top of the seventh bombing her third home run of the year over the left field fence to tie the game up at 7-7.
Jayme Redacliff and solid supporting cast was able to get the Aggies out in order to end the seventh and send the game into extras.
UNC needed just one more inning to finish the job. Lauren Paige singled to center field bringing across Sarah Fitzherbert and Cheyenne Talmadge to give the team a 9-7
advantage.
The Aggies put up one run in the bottom half of the eighth, but grounded into a double play to end the game.
Reddacliff (4-6) picked up the win for the Bears going all eight innings, giving up eight runs on 11 hits and struck out one.
Game Changer:
Rachel Johnson's seventh inning homerun propelled the game into extras. Johnson finished 2-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Key Stat:
Lauren Paige knocked in the game-winning runs. Paige had a strong game one, going 2-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Game 2:
Utah State used a big first inning to put Northern Colorado in the hole. The aggies put up an eight spot in the bottom half of the first to take a commanding lead.
The Bears chipped away at the lead, scoring two in the third and four in the fifth, but it wasn't enough as USU posted eight more runs across five innings to end the game early, 16-7.
Both Kelli Kleis (0-6) and Chandler Elsner saw time in the circle in game two. Kleis' outing was short lived pitching just two thirds of the first, giving up five runings on three hits with two walks.
Elsner finished out the game with 11 runs on nine hits, walking seven.
Game Changer:
Madi Schmidt got the UNC rally going in the top of the fifth with a double to center. She later scored on an error for the first run of the inning. Johnson came up big once again with a three-run homer to plate the final three runs. Johnson ended game two, 2-3 with four RBI and one run.
Key Stat:
Utah State used an eight-run first inning to take control of the second half of the twin bill, forcing UNC to making a pitching change.
Notables:
- In the two games combined, Johnson finished the day 4-7 with seven RBI and three runs.
- Northern Colorado snapped its ten game losing streak with the game one win over Utah State.
- The Bears slugged .323 as a team in both games and were good for 21 hits.
UNC ends the three-game series on Sunday against the Aggies. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
