UNC got the bats going early, taking a 1-0 advantage in the top of the first. Both Madi Schmidt and Erica Dick reached on slap up the middle and a bunt, putting them in scoring position.
As she had done all series, Lauren Paige came through with an RBI single to plate Schmidt.
Utah State answered the run and then some in the second and third innings, putting up a combining 12 runs on the scoreboard, leaving Northern Colorado in a 12-2 hole.
The Bears pushed two more runs across in the second and third innings and one more in the fifth on RBI from Schmidt, an unearned run, and a RBI from Ari Samaniego on a fielder's choice.
USU sealed the game with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, ending the matchup after just five innings.
Northern Colorado used three different pitchers in the contest with Jayme Reddacliff (4-7) taking the loss.
Reddacliff went for one and one third innings, giving up 10 hits and seven runs. She also walked and struck out one batter apiece.
Valerie Vidal came in to relieve Reddacliff, but her time in the circle was short lived, facing just eight batters, allowing five runs on four hits.
The third pitcher of the day was Lauren Paige. Paige finished out the final two innings for the team, giving up two runs on four hits.
Game Changer:
The bottom of the second and third innings was the deciding factor in the game. Utah State pushed across 12 runs on 13 hits.
