DAY THREE RESULTS | COMPLETE RESULTS
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Track and Field closed out the 2016 Big Sky Indoor Championships with podium finishes in the women's 60m dash, women's 200m dash, men's 400m dash, men's 4x400 team and men's triple jump on Saturday.
Moriah Zachary was the highlight of the meet for UNC. She finished third in the 60m dash with a time of 7.58 seconds and was named the Conference Champion in the 200m.
Zachary broke the tape in 24.37 seconds, a personal best and new school record in the race. Zachary finished tied for fourth in individual scoring on the women's side with 16 points.
"This young lady has come so far and really developed into an amazing runner," Head coach Amanda Schick said of Zachary. "She owned the race from prelims to the finals. I've never seen her so determined."
Alivia Ayres-Perry came in just behind Zachary in the women's 60m, taking fourth overall with a 7.59 second finish.
Ayres-Perry took fifth in the 200m dash with a sub-25 second time of 24.96.
The third Bear to place in the 60m dash was Brianna Pardner, her time was 7.74 seconds.
"These girls since day one have been training so competitive," Schick added about her sprinters. "One never wanting to lose to the other and that element has allowed each of them to reach a higher level of sprinting. It's a great atmosphere every day at practice and it paid off for this championship."Â
On the men's side, Alex Wesley came out of nowhere to earn a second place finish in the 400m dash. Wesley just made the finals with an eighth place finish in the prelims with a time of 48.79, but got after it in the finale, crossing the line with a season-best time of 48.39 seconds.
Fellow sprinter, Jordan Medina took sixth overall in the event, tallying a 49.27 second time.
"These two men are some of the best in the conference and they showed it again today," Schick said. "Alex simply took charge of his race, got to the break-line well and never lost the lead. It's tough on a small track because the heats are separated and the faster seed was in the second heat."
In the men's 4x400, the team of Wesley, Medina, Anthony Powell and Bryce Adams took fourth in the standings after their time of 3:18.48.
Francisco Au rounded out the podium placers, scoring fourth in the men's triple jump. Au's mark of 14.81m (48-07.25) was just .01m shy of third place.
The women's team finished the meet in ninth place with 45 points, while the men's team came in 11th with 26 points.
"The men in scoring position competed hard and we missed a few opportunities but overall I'm pleased with the effort given by all," Schick ended with. "I don't think there's an athlete on our team not looking forward to outdoor. We have a lot of expectations (with hosting the Outdoor Championship) and our seniors want to leave their mark, they are a talented class. We may get some time off from competing, but not from training. We're back at it next week."
