The Bears will face Colorado College and Air Force this upcoming weekend
GREELEY, Colo. - UNC Soccer will begin their 2015 season this Friday (Aug. 21) when they travel to Colorado Springs to face Colorado College in the first of their three games in the annual Colorado Cup.
The tournament is season-long and showcases the state of Colorado's Division I soccer teams, determining a champion via a points system [three points for a win, one for a tie, and one point for each goal scored]. This year's champion will not be determined until Friday, Oct. 30, when CC visits Air Force.
The season opener against Colorado College will be held at Colorado College on Stewart Field at 3:00 p.m. MT. and will be the first time the Bears have met CC since last season when they won for the first time in program history. The Bears are 1-14-1 against the Tigers all-time, but are 1-0-1 in the last two meetings.Â
The second game of the tournament for the Bears will take place against Air Force on Sunday (Aug. 23) in Boulder, Colorado. The game is being played on Prentup Field (CU) at 11 a.m. MT and will be the 15th time the two teams have met in program history. The Bears have won the last eight meetings with the Falcons (since UNC has been a Division I program), outscoring them 15-4 in those eight games.
The Bears return 10 starters from last season's squad, losing only one member of the team total. UNC went 10-9-2 last season, earning a bid to the Big Sky Tournament where they ended their season with a 2-1 loss against Idaho State.
Northern Colorado begins 2015 home-play on Aug. 27th when they return to Jackson Stadium to face the University of Pittsburgh for the first time ever.
