Northern Colorado baseball dropped game two of a three game series against Bakersfield on Saturday night 6-5

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Northern Colorado and Bakersfield had yet another close game Saturday night, with the Roadrunners taking game two of the three game series 6-5.

The game featured scoring from one of the teams in all but two of the innings and three lead changes.

UNC got off to a good start scoring a run in the first inning. Reyn Sugai (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Jensen Park (Kaneohe, Hawaii) both singled to start the game. They would proceed to steal second and third base to put two runners in scoring position for clean up hitter Marco Castilla (Littleton, Colo.).

Castilla would deliver for the Bears, driving in the run. He finished the day with a team high three hits and an RBI. His RBI single would give give the team an early 1-0 lead.

CSUB responded in the bottom half of the first with a run of their own to even up the game.

Bakersfield would score another two runs in the second to take an early 3-1 lead.

Northern Colorado would claw its way back into the game with a run each in the third through fifth inning, compared to the Roadrunners lone run to even the score up at four through five.

In the third senior Brandon Vaughn (Louisville, Colo.) would both reach and score on a run cutting the lead to 3-2.

Jake Garcia (Albuquerque, N.M) would be the Bears run in the fourth and Cole Malteeae (Supirior. Coloin the fifth to even up the score.

Neither team scored in the sixth inning, but UNC took its first and only lead in the seventh.

Castilla would lead off the inning with a single and be replaced by pitch runner Justin Mulvaney (Arvada, Colo.) Mulvaney would up in third base after a wild pitch and stolen base. Another wild pitch would end up scoring Mulvaney to give UNC a 5-4 lead.

Bakersfield would regain the lead for good after scoring two in eight.

The Bears we're unable to score another run giving UCSB a 6-5 win.

The two teams return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. For the rubber match.
