North Dakota's offensive explosion Sunday helped them past Northern Colorado Sunday
GREELEY—Errors once again hurt Northern Colorado baseball Sunday afternoon as they fell to North Dakota 13-2 at Jackson Field.
The Bears (6-15, 3-3 WAC) saw seven of the 13 runs they gave up unearned due to four errors during the game.
North Dakota (7-13, 3-3 WAC) got the scoring going early with five runs in the first two innings.
Northern Colorado was able to cut into UND's early 5-0 lead in the second inning.
Freshman Payton Tapia (Fort Collins, Colo.) started the inning off getting hit by a pitch. Dan Reese (Casper, Wyo.) singled to put runners on first and second when Joe Love (Danville, Calif.) came to the plate.
Reese had another good game for the Bears going 2-3 with a run scored.
Love singled to load the bases for Jake Ekman (Littleton, Colo.). Ekman grounded out to third, but drove home Tapia.
A wild pitch then brought home Reese and cut UND's lead to 5-2 after two.
That would be the closest UNC would get the rest of the way.
UND added on seven runs in the fourth through sixth inning to take control of the game.
"We are in the second weekend of conference play and looking for a turnaround," said head coach Carl Iwasaki. "It was not a good week for us, but we have good senior leadership that will help us get this going in the right direction."
UNC will look to regroup from the tough weekend on Tuesday when they travel down to Colorado Springs on Tuesday to take on Air Force in the first of four mid-week games this year between the two teams.
