Men's Tennis Picks Up a Win Over Busy Weekend

Northern Colorado men's tennis picked up a win over Lewis and Clark State College over the weekend
CHENEY, Wash. & LEWISTON, Idaho – It was yet another busy weekend for the Northern Colorado men's tennis team as they played in two Big Sky Conference matches along with a non-conference match. The Bears went 1-2 in the three matchups defeating Lewis and Clark State College 4-3, while falling to conference foes Eastern Washington 5-2 and Idaho 6-1, bringing the team's record to 3-6 for the year and 0-3 in conference play.
Austin Mayo (Austin, Texas) had a strong showing in singles play going 3-0, all coming in the number two matches. Of the three match-ups that Mayo won, two of them came via a sweep.
In the match against Lewis and Clark, UNC came from behind in the singles matches to secure the win. LCSC earned the doubles point after winning the number one and three doubles matches.
The Bears came back strong in the singles though, winning the number one, two, three and six matchups.
Ben Gendron (Flower Mound, Texas) won his match 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, Mayo won 6-2, 6-3, Mitchel Knight (Tulsa, Okla.) won 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 and Jacob Sheldon (Parker, Colo.) 6-0, 6-4.
Against Idaho Mayo was the lone winner for the Bears. While against Eastern Washington Eric Schuermans (Sao Paulo, Brazil) won a highly competitive number five match 7-6 (10-12), 6-4 (10-5) to go along with Mayo's win.
The Bears will now return home for a three match home stand starting Thursday, Feb. 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Work Out West Complex against Seattle University.
