Scouting The Bears (Game Notes)
-This is the first NAIA school the Bears have played since the 2012-13 season when they defeated Tabor College, 90-62. Under Hill, UNC is 4-1 against NAIA schools with its lone loss coming in 2011-12 against Westminster College.
- Freshman guard Jordan Davis tallied a career-high 22 points in the loss at UC-Riverside last Thursday, scoring 16 of those points in the second half. Davis has now recorded three straight games of 10 points or more.
- Junior guard, Jordan Wilson reached 20 points for the first time in the defeat at UC-Riverside. Wilson notched 20 points, scoring 18 of those points in the second half. He hit five three-pointers in the last 20 minutes for 15 of the 18 points.
- Fellow junior shooter, Anthony Johnson was held to just five points in last Thursday's loss. It was the first time this season that Johnson failed to reach double-figure scoring.
- After being down by as many as 28 to UC-Riverside, UNC closed out on a 25-8 run and cut its deficit to single digits (9 points), but ran out of time, falling to the Highlanders 77-66.
- The Bears have been taking good care of the ball as of late, recording just 10 turnovers in three out their last four games, winning the turnover battle in those three games.
Scouting The Panthers
- York College comes into Wednesday's contest as the best rebounding team in the NAIA (DII), averaging 43.6 boards a game.
- The Panthers are also good about sharing the rock, ranking third in the NAIA in assists (16.0 per game) and are quick on pick pockets, also ranking third in steals (10.7 per game).
- Cameron Coleman is York's leading scorer, averaging 18.3 points a game as well as adding in 5.5 rebounds. He's also racked up 19 steals in 13 games.
- The Panthers are heading into the game after picking up back-to-back wins over Kansas Wesleyan and Grace University. They outscored their opponents 177-151 in the two games.
- York will play two Division I schools this season in Northern Colorado and the University of South Dakota (Feb. 17)
Old Jordan, Young Jordan
- Freshman and junior guard, Jordan Davis and Jordan Wilson combined for 42 points in the loss at UC-Riverside. Davis dropped a career-high 22 points, while Wilson reached 20 points for the first time this season with 20.
- Combined, the pair scored 34 of the 42 points in the second half.
- Davis also led the team in rebounding, hauling in 8 boards, while Wilson finished the game 5-for-7 from three point land, all of them coming in the last 20 minutes of the game.
- The duo is averaging double-figure numbers with Wilson at 14.1 on the season and Davis at 10.1
- Wilson has notched at least 10 points or more in every game this season, while Davis has scored in double digits in the last three games.
It's Going To Be Ok
- Northern Colorado is riding a five-game losing streak heading into Wednesdays' matchup against York College. It's just the second time in Hill's tenure that the Bears have had a losing streak of six games or longer. The last was seven games, in the 2012-13 season, but UNC still finished 10-10 in the Big Sky giving them the 5th seed in the league postseason tournament.
- The Bears have qualified for the Big Sky Tournament in five of the six season under Hill, never earned a seed lower than sixth.
- Northern Colorado has a 49-41 record in the Big Sky under Hill.
- Despite the slow start, The Bears have three players averaging double digits in Anthony Johnson (15.6 ppg), Jordan Wilson (14.1 ppg) and Jordan Davis (10.1 ppg)
- UNC has also recorded 10 turnovers over less in three out its last four games, winning the turnover battle in those three games.
Next Three At Home
- Northern Colorado returns home for three straight games, looking to put its five-game losing skid in the past, beginning on Dec. 9 with York.
- UNC then hosts in-state foes Colorado State (Dec. 13) and Denver (Dec. 16) before ending non-conference play on the road at Jacksonville State (Dec. 21) and Mississippi State (Dec. 23).
- It will be the first time since the 2011-12 season that both the Rams and the Pioneers pay a visit to Greeley.
