The Bears had six total wrestlers place at the Wyoming-hosted tournament

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Northern Colorado Wrestling traveled up to Laramie on Saturday to compete in the annual Wyoming-hosted Cowboy Open. The wrestling lasted from 9:00 a.m. until 7:45 p.m. and was split into two divisions, the Amatuer division and the Elite division.

The Bears had four first places finishers, along with two second placers, all within the Elite division.

Junior Eleazar DeLuca (157), redshirt sophomore Keilan Torres (165), junior Nikko Reyes, and redshirt senior Trent Noon (197) were all named the champions in their respective weight classes.

DeLuca went 4-0 again this weekend, including a first round win over an Air Force wrestler. After a 6-1 decision over Jake Elliot of Wyoming in the semifinals, DeLuca also posted a 6-1 win over Air Force's Zachary Stepan to earn his second straight tournament title this season.

Keilan Torres had similar success, after going 4-0 with wins over three Division I wrestlers. Torres defeated Boise State's Taylor West, 7-5, to advance to the finals, where he faced Alex Lopouchanski (Air Force). Down 3-1 nearing the end of the match, Torres pulled out the win with a takedown with three seconds to go, followed by a quick turn for a two-point nearfall to secure his lead as time expired.

Nikko Reyes found himself in a situation that mirrored the UNC Open, going 3-0 in matches, including a last second pin over Luke Paine of Wyoming and an 8-3 decision over Anthony McLaughlin of Air Force, to advance to the finals. In a rematch of last weekend's 184-pound finals match, Reyes met fellow UNC wrestler Dylan Gabel, this time pushing the match into overtime tied 1-1. Reyes would ultimately prevail this time around, picking up a takedown in sudden victory to end the match and gain the title.

Yet again, Trent Noon finished off the champions for the Bears on the day, taking three straight matches to move to 6-0 on the season so far. In his first match of the day, Noon pinned Harley DiLulo (Boise State) at 2:21, and a 6-3 decision in the semis would push him through to a finals matchup against Wyoming's Brandon Tribble. Noon took the match with an early lead, eventually racking up eight points to Tribble's two, taking the title at 197 pounds.

Rico Montoya had another good showing, competing at 133-pounds in the Elite Division, going 3-0 in his first three matches including a win over Dylan Hyder of Air Force, followed by a quarterfinal pin at 1:31. Montoya would ultimately fall in the finals by decision, 10-5, against Josh Martinez (Air Force).

Gabel, despite finishing second to Reyes in the finals, opened up his tournement 3-0 with huge wins over William Baker of Air Force (MD 10-0) and Michael Ayala of Great Falls (TF 17-1). He would also defeat Wyoming's Jace Jensen 4-1 in the semis to make it to his rematch against Reyes in the finals.

The Bears kick off their 2015-16 dual schedule next Thursday, Nov. 12, when they travel to Arizona for a pair of duals against Arizona State [Tempe, 5:00PM MT] and Grand Canyon [Phoenix, 8:00 PM MT].
