Returning to Greeley after playing for Northern Colorado in 2004, Patrick Perry joined the Bears prior to the 2010 season.
Despite the change in bats, the Bears offense has seen significant gains with Perry as the hitting coach. In 2013, the team hit .291 en route to its first-ever Great West Conference regular season title. With Perry’s aggressive nature in coaching third base, the Bears stole 68 bags, the highest total since the 1994 team swiped a school record 83.
The 2012 team also set the school record for triples with 39, which led the nation.
He attended Northern Colorado after graduating cum laude from Otero Junior College in 2003. After just one year at Northern Colorado, Perry made an impeccable impact on the baseball program. He still holds the school record for doubles, total bases, and RBI and is second overall in hits.
He received the NCAA batting title in 2004 for having the best single-season batting average in the nation. In addition to his accolades, Perry was Division I Baseball All-American and D-I Independent Player of the Year in 2004.
After his success his junior year, Perry was drafted by the Red Sox in the MLB Amateur Draft as a catcher as a seventh-round selection in 2004. From there, Perry continued in the minor leagues for five years, playing with Worcester Tornadoes and the Traverse City Beach Bums. While in Worcester, Perry was elected team captain and team MVP by teammates and managers in 2007. He was named the Can-Am League All-Star Player of the Month in July 2007 while playing for the Tornadoes.
Perry returned to Northern Colorado to finish his degree in finance in 2009. Perry concluded his Master’s degree in sport administration in 2012.
