- Played four seasons of varsity basketball at Thunder Ridge High School under head coach Joe Ortiz.
- During his 91 career games he averaged 11.5 point, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
- As a senior he ended with 16.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game to help lead his team to the second round of the state tournament.
- His best season came as a junior where he led Thunder Ridge to teh state quarterfinals with 18.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game.
- Paine earned First Team All-Continental League and Second Team 6A All-State honors while helping lead the Grizzlies to the Colorado 6A State Championship game as a sophomore.
