Terrance Grant joined the University of Northern Colorado football staff in 2024 and enters his third season as the Bears’ running backs coach in 2026. Grant brings experience as an NCAA Division I student-athlete, coach, and recruiter, with a background that spans collegiate football, high school development, and performance training.
During the 2025 season, Grant helped guide a Northern Colorado running back room that produced multiple program-record performances. Brandon Johnson tied for 15th-most single-season touchdowns in program history with six, while Mathias Price recorded the ninth-highest single-game rushing total in UNC history at Houston Christian. Price also finished with 483 rushing yards, ranking third all-time for a single season, while Johnson added 321 rushing yards, ranking sixth, reflecting improved consistency and production in the Bears’ ground game.
Prior to UNC, Grant spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons at Moe and Gene Johnson High School (6A) in Buda, Texas, serving as the wide receivers coach and contributing to the program’s offensive development at the state’s highest classification level.
Grant previously spent three seasons at Utah Tech University (2019-21) in multiple roles. In his first season as wide receivers coach, the Trailblazer receiving corps combined for more than 2,500 receiving yards. Receiver Devon Osborne was named to the 2021 AFCA Allstate Good Works Team (30th Anniversary Team) and tied for eighth on Utah Tech’s NCAA-era career 100-yard receiving games list. In 2019, Grant served as a defensive quality control coach, assisting with the safeties. That season, Alex Lilliard earned Second Team All-Conference honors, while Darrius Nash led the team with 73 tackles, adding 4.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions.
While at Utah Tech, Grant also served as the Multicultural Inclusion Center Coordinator and Black Student Union Advisor, acting as the lead coordinator for African American and Black students. In that role, he provided programming focused on student transition, engagement, and access to campus resources.
Grant came to Utah Tech after spending more than a decade coaching high school football in California, serving as a wide receivers coach, passing game coordinator, and strength and conditioning coach. During that time, he coached an Under Armour All-American, numerous Division I student-athletes, and players who have gone on to NFL rosters. He also worked extensively as a private performance trainer, training high school and collegiate athletes across multiple sports.
As a collegiate player, Grant was the leading receiver at Fresno City College in 2003, earning All-Conference honors and helping lead the Rams to a Producers Dairy Bowl appearance. He later played at San José State (2004-06) under head coaches Fitz Hill and Dick Tomey. A knee injury prevented him from competing during his senior season, an experience that ultimately led him into coaching and athlete development.
Grant earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management, wellness, and fitness from California University of Pennsylvania in 2017. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports and exercise science with a concentration in sport administration at the University of Northern Colorado.
Terrance and his wife, Shareena, are the proud parents of three children: Terrance Jr., Tiana, and Trenton.
