Bears Show Growth at MSU Denver Roadrunner Invite

DENVER, Colo. – Northern Colorado continued its fall progression Saturday at the MSU Denver Roadrunner Invite, with the men racing an 8K and the women a 6K in the Bears' second meet of the season.
Tristan Persons again led the men's squad, finishing 35th overall with a time of 26:30.1. Dylan Wilson followed in 62nd at 27:40.2, while Roddick Klopenstine, making his season debut, crossed in 68th at 27:51.4.
Cody Williams finished 69th in 27:51.7, with Noah Mayoral De Anza close behind in 75th at 28:01.9. Max Kedrowski placed 86th in 28:27.4, and Tad Rabenhorst rounded out the Bears in 114th at 30:01.3.
On the women's side, Sabina Stroia paced Northern Colorado for the second consecutive meet, finishing 14th overall in 23:05.1. Claire Nowels followed in 24th at 23:34.4, and Brooke Elfert placed 27th in 23:43.3, giving the Bears three runners inside the top 30.
Sofia Cambridge crossed in 60th at 24:50.3, while Taylor Sheldon finished 62nd in 24:53.2. Braelyn Gifford placed 68th in 25:21.0, followed by Jordain Stutzman in 75th at 25:49.2 and Isabella Lemus in 77th at 25:57.3.
Head coach Nick Maas said the meet marked another step forward for a program building toward the heart of its fall schedule.
"A good start to our full distances of 6 and 8k," Maas said. "We worked on being a little more aggressive this week and focusing forward in the middle. The Bears are learning and growing each week and I'm proud of the growth so far."
In the end the women came in sixth out of 10 teams and the men finished seventh out of nine teams competing.
Northern Colorado returns to competition later this fall at the USU Steve Reeder Memorial on October 8, as the Bears continue building toward the conference championship portion of the schedule.
