Bears Set to Resume Match Against Denver Sunday

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado women's soccer returns to Jackson Stadium Sunday afternoon as the Bears resume their previously suspended match against in-state opponent Denver. Action is scheduled to resume at 12 p.m. MT.
Northern Colorado and Denver originally met on Aug. 13 before lightning and poor field conditions forced the match to be suspended. The contest was stopped with 25:07 remaining in the first half with the match scoreless.
Rather than beginning a new match, the Bears and Pioneers will pick up exactly where play ended, with all statistics and game action from the opening 20 minutes carrying over into Sunday's contest.
LAST TIME OUT
Northern Colorado enters Sunday with a 1-1-1 record following a scoreless draw against South Dakota Thursday night at Jackson Stadium.
The Bears generated 11 shots in the match, including five on goal, while limiting the Coyotes to eight total attempts. Lexi Tuite, Nora Dougherty and Ava Marshall led the UNC attack with two shots apiece.
The draw followed UNC's 2-1 victory over Colorado State, giving the Bears points in each of their last two matches.

Thordis Melsted has continued to anchor the Northern Colorado defense in goal. The Bears recorded their first clean sheet of the season Thursday against South Dakota, with Melsted making five saves to keep the Coyotes off the scoreboard.
Melsted also played the opening portion of UNC's original meeting with Denver, making multiple saves before weather brought the match to a halt.

Sunday presents a unique situation for both sides as Northern Colorado and Denver return to Jackson Stadium more than two weeks after their original meeting.
Denver produced the first opportunities of the contest before the suspension, but the Bears' defense kept the Pioneers off the board. With more than 70 minutes still remaining, UNC will look to establish itself quickly when action resumes Sunday afternoon.
