OREM, Utah – Northern Colorado baseball battled throughout the afternoon but fell to Utah Valley, 11–6, on Friday at UCCU Ballpark to open the series. The Bears collected seven hits and worked five walks, but Utah Valley used a late six-run eighth inning to pull away and secure the win in game of the series.

Utah Valley jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs on a pair of extra-base hits and a single to take control at 3–0.

Northern Colorado responded in the second inning to get on the board. Logan Pruski reached with a single before Sam Pease brought him home with an RBI fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 3–1. The Bears continued to chip away in the third. After Jaden Stone reached base and stole second, Zeke Minic delivered an RBI double to left field before Ethan Mooser followed with an RBI single to center, tying the game at 3–3.

UNC took its first lead of the afternoon in the sixth inning. Mason Griffin sparked the rally with a single before a sacrifice fly from Brandon Sanchez gave the Bears a 4–3 advantage. UNC added two more runs in the inning as Stone reached on an error that allowed a run to score and Jake Bullard doubled home another run to push the lead to 6–3.

Utah Valley began to respond in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run from Mason Strong and an RBI double from Chipper Beck to trim the lead to 6–5.

The Wolverines then built on their lead in the eighth inning, capitalizing on walks and timely hits to plate six runs and take an 11–6 lead that would stand as the final.

Jake Bullard led the Bears offensively, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI. Logan Pruski also recorded two hits, while Minic added a double and an RBI. Stone scored twice and stole two bases to help pace the Bears offense.
