Bears Shine in Fort Collins with Multiple All-Time Performances
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Northern Colorado track and field delivered a dominant performance at the Doug Max Invitational, hosted by Colorado State, with Kiana Van Haaren, Jerome Campbell, and Jaelynn Lane all rewriting the UNC record books.
Van Haaren stole the spotlight in the women's long jump, launching a 6.33-meter (20'9") leap to win the event and break her own school record, while also setting a meet record.
On the men's side, Campbell sprinted to victory in the 100 meters with a blistering 10.13, setting a meet record and UNC all-time best. He returned to win the 110-meter hurdles in 13.55 seconds, adding meet and stadium records to his resume in one of the best sprint-hurdle doubles in school history.
Freshman Jaelynn Lane made history of her own in the women's triple jump, posting a distance of 12.30 meters (40'4.25") to place second overall and claim the No. 1 spot in UNC history.
Director of Track & Field Wayne Angel shared his thoughts:
"I'm thrilled with the team's outstanding performances today. We delivered an impressive showing for UNC, with big wins, new records, and several personal bests.
Jerome's exceptional results in the 100m and 110m hurdles were a highlight—especially his school-record performance in the 100m. Kiana and Jaelyn also stood out, setting new school records in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.
As a team, we're hitting our stride at just the right time and are well-positioned for a strong showing at the Big Sky Championships."
More standout performances included:
Shantell Hafner, who ran 2:13.69 in the 800m for 8th place and the No. 8 time in program history
Samantha Kullish, who cleared 3.45m (11'3.75") in the pole vault to tie for 7th all-time at UNC
Claire Nowels, 7th in the 5000m (19:22.84)
Sherika Thomas, 4th in the 100m hurdles (14.44)
Kaliff Guevara, 4th in the men's triple jump with 14.83m, good for No. 9 all-time at UNC
The Bears' relay teams also impressed, with the women's 4x100m squad (Hoodak, Del Campo, Van Haaren, Ward) taking second in 46.64, and the men's 4x400m team (Samuels Jr., Cruzan, Garcia, Castillo) clocking a meet record 3:10.29 for second place.
