Bears Move Up Two Spots on Final Day
MARICOPA, Ariz. — Antti Vahvaselka led Northern Colorado with a 5-over par at the Cowboy Classic – hosted by Wyoming – at the AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club (par 72/7,337 yards).
The 23-team field completed the second round, suspended due to darkness Monday, before playing the final 18 holes Tuesday.
UNC finished with 298-289-299—886 and moved from 21st after round one to 19 Tuesday. CSU-Northridge and Gonzaga tied for 17th, three fewer strokes than the Bears, while UT Arlington recorded 893 and placed 20th.
Long Beach State won the team title with an 827, while Iowa State (841) followed in second, while San Diego (843) claimed third.
Following a 71 in the first round, Vahvaselka notched 76 and 73, over the final 36 holes, placing 55th, with 220.
Westin Pals trailed Vahvaselka by one stroke while finishing two shots ahead of Cooper Tate. Pals finished 65th, with a 221 (75-69-77), while Tate tied for 82nd, with a 77-71-75-223.
JaeSeung Na carded a 75-73-77—225, while Palmer Mutcheson rounded out the scoring, with a 78-78-74—230.
UNC returns to action Monday, April 7, and Tuesday, April 8 at the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate – hosted by FGCU in Estero, Fla.
