UNC bounced back after dropping both games to SCU yesterday

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado softball responded in a big way on Sunday, earning back-to-back wins to split the weekend series against Santa Clara at Gloria Rodriguez Field. Behind offensive outbursts and timely pitching, the Bears claimed a 9-5 win in game one and followed it up with an 11-8 victory in game two.

GAME 1 | NORTHERN COLORADO 9, SANTA CLARA 5
Pitching: (W) Isabelle DiNapoli (6-7); (L) Cari Ferguson (3-7)

Northern Colorado wasted no time flipping the script from Saturday's opener, striking early with a five-run third inning and never looking back.

The Bears capitalized on three Santa Clara errors and nine hits, including a home run from Krista Francia.

Nya Chacon drove in three runs, while Francia added two. Izzy DiNapoli delivered a gritty complete game, allowing five earned runs on seven hits while striking out eight.

GAME 2 | NORTHERN COLORADO 11, SANTA CLARA 8
Pitching: (W) Anna Wilming (3-8); (L) Hazyl Gray (7-1)

The bats stayed hot in game two, with UNC jumping out to an early 5-3 lead before adding six more runs over the next three innings.

UNC shared offensive power, with four Bears collecting two RBIs, and two collecting one a piece. Francia came up big again, going 3-of-4 from the plate with two extra base hits. Morales blasted a solo shot to left center in the fifth, and Alina Quinney hit a RBI double in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

After Santa Clara made it a three-run game in the top of the seventh, Grace Algrim came in to shut the door. Anna Wilming picked up the win after allowing seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits in 5.0 innings of work.

UP NEXT

Northern Colorado (9-21) now turns its attention Big Sky play, as the reigning conference champs welcome the Montana Lady Griz for a three game series March 28-29.
