Bears Win Pitcher’s Duel Saturday

UNC Evens Series with Bison at 1-1
GREELEY, Colo. – Aiden Gebhard's two-out, two-strike RBI single lifted Northern Colorado to a 4-3 victory over North Dakota State at Jackson Field Saturday.
Pitching dominated the tone, with UNC (8-14, 3-2 Summit) allowing one earned run from its three hurlers. Logan Knight started on the bump for the Bison (5-16, 3-2 Summit) and surrendered three runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks.
Trevor Landen made his second start this season for the Bears and worked 3.0 innings, facing two batters in the fourth. He allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and four walks, while fanning one.
Dylan Smith relieved Landen and scattered four hits and one walk over 4.1 innings. He struck out three and gave up one unearned run. Zach Hose picked up his first career victory, after spinning 1.2 scoreless frames, walking one and punching out one.
The teams combined for 5-for-21, with two outs, and 8-of-31, with runners on. UNC held the advantage in both categories, recording four hits in 11 at-bats with two outs and 5-16, with runners on.
After allowing three runs in the top of the fourth, UNC's first two batters went down to open the home half of the frame. Tony Castonguay reached on a hit-by-pitch and moved to second on a base-on-balls to Jake King. A two-out RBI double by Jake Bullard plated the first run. Craig Kenny reached on a fielding error and the Bears trimmed the deficit to 3-2.
In the next stanza, Brandon Sanchez led off with a single and advanced to third on a pair of groundouts. Kai Wagner singled in front of the right fielder and Sanchez trotted home with the equalizer.
Jake Bullard laced a one-out single into center in the eighth and moved to second on a groundout. Gebhard stepped to the plate and delivered with a knock between the shortstop and third baseman. Bullard raced around third and beat the throw to the plate for the eventual game-winner.
UNC recorded six hits, with Wagner and Bullard tallying three each. Wagner tripled with two singles, while Bullard added two and a double. Kenny, Gebhard and Sanchez inked one knock each.
