Vahvahelka Posts a Top 25 Finish

PHOENIX – Antti Vahvaselka posted a top 25 finish at the GCU Invitational – hosted by Grand Canyon – on the Grand Canyon Golf Course (par 71/6,728 yards) Wednesday.
Vahvaselka overcame a slow start, with a 2-under-par 140 over the final 36 holes. The senior from Helsinki, Finland, opened with a 76 in Tuesday's first round. He fired a 73 over the second round Tuesday, closed with a 4-under par 67 Wednesday, and finished in a tie for 24th with a 3-over par 216.
The Bears totaled 293-295-294—882, tied with St. Thomas in 13th place in the 18-team field. Omaha placed 12th, with 880, two fewer swings than UNC, while Austin Peay and Valparaiso netted 883 each.
Palmer Mutcheson carded 72-73-77—222 and tied for 55th.
JaeSeung Na tallied 76 over each of the final two rounds, after starting with a 72 and totaling 224 strokes.
Westin Pals inked a 77-73-75—225, while Matias Koropeski rounded out the scoring with a 73-78-76—227.
UNC returns to the course March 31 and April 1 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, hosted by Wyoming, at the AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.
