Bears Open Dual Season with Commanding Win Over Idaho

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado swimming & diving opened its 2025 dual meet schedule in dominant fashion Saturday morning, defeating MPSF foe Idaho 183-117 at the Butler-Hancock Pool.
The Bears controlled the meet from start to finish, capturing 11 of 16 event titles. The tone was set early as UNC's 200-yard medley relay teams claimed the top two spots. The "A" squad of Martina Yuki Trionfetti, Avi Tromp, Ellyson Lombardi, and Alexis Misher took first in 1:45.28, while the "B" team of Ariane Bernier, Maria Erokhina, Agathi Manoli, and Vitoria Simioni followed closely in 1:47.67.
Kyra Rabess continued her standout form, dominating the 1000-yard freestyle by an 11-second margin (10:29.66) and later adding another win in the 500 free (5:08.92). Lora Konter and Simioni added key points in the 200 free, placing second and third, respectively.
Northern Colorado then swept four consecutive events: Trionfetti (100 back, 57.33), Erokhina (100 breast, 1:03.53), Lombardi (200 fly, 2:05.28), and Simioni (50 free, 24.48) each took first. Rabess later added her third win of the day in the 100 free (52.75), while Erokhina doubled up with a victory in the 200 breast (2:18.83).
Lombardi also captured the 100 fly in 56.46, and the Bears closed the meet with another relay victory; Lombardi, Misher, Rabess, and Trionfetti clocked 3:31.22 to win the 400 free relay.
On the boards, Addison Campbell placed third in the 1-meter (243.23), and Mireya Ruiz took second in the 3-meter (265.28), rounding out a strong season-opening performance for the Bears.

The Bears will travel to New Mexico State on Saturday, October 25 for a dual meet scheduled for 10 a.m. MDT.
