GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado swimming is set to make its debut at the MPSF Open Water Swimming Championship this weekend, as four Bears head to Long Beach, California, for the third annual event on Saturday, October 18, at Marine Stadium.
Competing for the Bears in their first appearance at the championship are Kyra Rabess, Lora Konter, Hlaa Diab, and Ellyson Lombardi. The one-day meet brings together nearly 200 collegiate swimmers from 20 universities across the country, marking the largest field in the event's three-year history.
The championship will feature both a 5-kilometer individual race and a 2,000-meter relay, with teams of four swimmers each completing a 500-meter leg. The top three finishers in the 5K will earn automatic qualification for the USA Swimming Open Water National Championship and CSCAA Nationals in December.
The men's 5K opens the day at 10 a.m. MDT/9:00 a.m. PDT, followed by the women's 5K at 11:30 a.m. MDT/10:30 a.m. PDT. The women's 2K relay is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. MDT/2:15 p.m. PDT to close collegiate competition.
