FARMINGTON, Utah – Northern Colorado softball will begin the year as the preseason favorite to win the Big Sky Conference as announced by the BSC on Monday afternoon.
The Big Sky Conference Preseason Poll was voted on by coaches.
The Bears earned 23 points in the poll and received three of the six possible first place votes. In 2024, the Bears went 27-26 overall and were the regular season and tournament champions of the BSC. They ended their season in the NCAA tournament with a loss to Michigan in regionals.
Idaho State was picked second in the poll with 21 points and two first place votes. Portland State was picked third with 17 points and one first place vote.
"We are excited for the upcoming season and eager to see what this year's team can accomplish," said Head Coach Dedeann Pendelton-Helm. "We have nothing but respect for every team in our conference, as each one is strong and competitive. Our focus will remain on Bear Ball and the team's mission statement: One Heartbeat."
UNC softball will begin their season with four games at the 2025 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge Tournament in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. First pitch is set for Thursday, Feb. 6 at 12 p.m. MST against Florida State and 3 p.m. MST against Louisiana Tech.
