Mattio Signs A Pair of Freshmen

GREELEY, Colo. – University of Northern Colorado head women's basketball coach Kristen Mattio is pleased to announce the addition of high school student-athletes Louise Dykstra and Claire Fraser.
Dykstra and Fraser join other fellow high school signees Neenah George and Olivia Loomis-Goltl, who both signed this past fall.
"Our focus was to recruit players that provided versatility and playmaking to complement our current team and our future. Joined by early signees Olivia and Neenah, Louise and Claire also represent the epitome of a student-athlete, they are unbelievable class acts, and their work ethic and self-motivation will serve our program well both on and off the court. As with all recruiting classes, I am very proud when a young lady decides to come to the University of Northern Colorado and become a Bear."
Claire Fraser

Hometown: Brisbane, Australia
Previous School: Brisbane State High School
Fraser enjoyed a successful prep career at Brisbane State High School. Highlights include winning a state championship and playing in the grand finals in Australia. Also played for multiple medals at the national championships representing Queensland. Claire is currently playing for Ipswitch Force in the Australian NBL1 competition. She is averaging 13 points and 6 rebounds per game. Aside from basketball, Fraser also plays Aussie Rules Football and coaches youth-level teams.
Coach Mattio: "We are thrilled to announce the addition of Claire to our Bear family! Claire competes at a high level on the court! Our Bear fans are going to love her length, size, and work ethic that she brings night in and night out! Claire is a versatile scoring guard who can shoot the ball and has an offensive savvy to get to the rim! She has strong playmaking abilities and a high basketball IQ. She has been awarded as defensive MVP for her club team. Claire was mentored by coaches Ross Jensen and Mark Harvey throughout her youth, high school, and club careers. Claire will fit perfectly into our system and style of play."

Previous School: Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School
As a senior, averaged 24 points, 16 rebounds, four blocks, and four assists per game. Enjoyed a successful junior season and averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game. Was a Vancouver All-City selection as a junior and senior and 4A MVP as a senior. Part of the 2022, 2023, and 2024 Vancouver championships.
Coach Mattio: "We couldn't be more thrilled to have Louise join our Bear family. Louise is going to be a special player in our program and make an immediate impact with her overall basketball skillset and court savvy. She is a versatile player who can stretch the defense to the perimeter with her ability to shoot the 3. Her mobility will allow her to thrive in the open court as well as finish off the dribble in the paint. She has a great mind for the game and will flourish in our up-tempo style of play. We like that she has a guard-like approach to her game and has a playmaker mentality. Louise is a strong rebounder and defender which we continue to seek out in our future players. She will shine in our system and be a vital part of our future. Louise played high school basketball for her father, Coach Simon Dykstra at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary. Bear fans are going to love watching her play!"
