Bears Equal All-Time Record for 54-Hole Tournament

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Pietro Boeris and Gage Messingham paced Northern Colorado to the best 54-hole total in the program's history at the Loyola Intercollegiate – hosted by Loyola (Md.) – at Palm Valley Golf Club (par 72/7,015 yards) Tuesday.
The Bears entered the final round in third place with a total of 539 strokes through the first 36 holes played. Following the ninth-best 18-hole (280) tally in the opening round Sunday, UNC shot a team mark of 279 Monday, moving into a three-way tie for seventh lowest. The Bears equaled their opening-round score of 280 and matched the all-time mark at 839. They finished in a tie with the host, Loyola, nine strokes better than fourth-place Marshall and 15 swings behind North Dakota State – the team champion.
Boeris paced UNC with an 11-under par 205 (69-67-69), posting red numbers each day.
Messingham placed seventh, two shots behind Boeris at 207 (68-67-72).
Boeris moved him into a four-way tie on the school's all-time 54-hole tally, while Messingham equaled the 10th-lowest individual total over three rounds.
TJ Shehee collected a split of 33rd, with an aggregate total of 214. He shot even par in the first and third rounds while posting a 2-under-par 70 on day two.
Westin Pals fired a 67 and vaulted up the leaderboard 35 positions Tuesday. His 74-79-67—220 equaled teammate Antti Vahvaselka in an eight-way draw for 69th.
Vahvaselka closed with a 74, after shooting a 71 and 75 over the first two circuits around the course.
UNC returns to Arizona for its next event, competing at the Grand Canyon Invitational Tuesday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 13.
