SPOKANE, Wash. – It was the Jerome Campbell show on the final day of the 2024 Big Sky Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at The Podium Powered by STCU.
The sophomore from Kingston, Jamaica was a repeat champion in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.74 and won the 200-meter dash and set the UNC program record with a final time of 21.19. Campbell also placed second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.73.
Campbell won the meet's Men's Most Valuable Athlete Award.
"Jerome was truly amazing today winning the 60m hurdles and the 200m Dash and placing 2nd in the 60m Dash scoring 28 points," said UNC head track and field coach Wayne Angel. "Rightfully won the men's most valuable athlete award."
Two more school records fell on the women's side, with freshman Alexia Austin setting a mark of 8.41 in the 60-meter hurdles and junior Wendira Moss setting the 200-meter dash mark with a time of 23.94. The duo each finished third in the conference in their respective events.
"I thought that we represented Northern Colorado with solid performances across our key event areas. Our women's distance medley relay and Kiana Van Haaren fell short of the podium with 4th place finishes, but provided vital points to keep the momentum going," Angel said. "It's amazing when you have a few athletes that set their minds to being the best that they can be good things can happen. The Big Sky is a super-highly competitive meet, and you just have you rise to the occasion and, we are fortunate that these Bears did."
