UNC Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at Boston University on Saturday

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado track & field opens the 2024-25 indoor season on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University. The meet will take place at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center in Boston.
UNC Entries
Women: Alexia Austin (60H, 60m), Regina Mpigachai (Mile, 800m), Precious Nzeakor (Lon Jump, 60m, 300m), Wendira Moss (400m, 200m).
Men: Moise Bennett (60H, 200m), Zander Cruzan (400m, 200m, 4x400m Relay), Jerome Campbell (60m, 200m), Floyd Samuels (60m, 300m, 4x400m Relay), Raphael Egbuchilem (60m, 300m, 4x400m Relay), Edgar Garcia (60m, 300m, 4x400m Relay).
UNC Returners
The men's team will see outdoor All-American Jerome Campbell returning to compete this season. Campbell competed at the 2024 Jamaican Olympic Trials this summer, where he posted his second-fastest time of his career (13.32) in the 110-meter hurdles.
Junior Moise Bennett had a standout sophomore season, running two personal bests at the 2024 Big Sky Track and Field Outdoor Championship in the 110-meter hurdles (14.46) and the 400-meter hurdles (53.64). Bennett also posted a personal best 22.62 in the 200m at the Potts Invitational.
Zander Cruzan competed in the 60m and 400m events at the Colorado Invitational last February, finishing third in the 400m with a time of 47.89.
Raphael Egbuchilem is also returning for the Bears. Last season, Egbuchilem placed first in the 300m at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener with a personal best time of 33.84.
Junior Edgar Garcia finished the 2023-24 season at the 2024 Big Sky Track and Field Championship, finishing third in both the 100m and 200m events.
On the women's side, Regina Mpigachai is coming off a strong finish at the 2024 NCAA DI Cross Country Championships. Individually, she was ranked 22nd by FloTrack after her historic performance at Mountain Regionals.
Sophomore Alexia Austin finished third in the 60m hurdles at the 2024 Big Sky Indoor Championships with a time of 8.45.
Senior Wendira Moss placed third in the 400m dash at the 2024 Big Sky Outdoor Championships with a personal best time of 53.89. Moss also ran a personal best 200m dash at the meet with a time of 23.67.
2023-24 Indoor Review
The 2023-24 indoor season featured impressive performances from the Bears. Jerome Campbell set school records in the 200-meter dash (21.19) and 60-meter hurdles (7.74). At the Big Sky Championships, he won titles in the 60-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash. Wendira Moss also set a school record in the 200-meter dash (23.94). Medalists included Alexia Austin (3rd in the 60-meter hurdles, 8.45), Moss (3rd in the 200 meters, 23.94), and Regina Mpigachai (2nd in the 800 meters, 2:07.54, and the mile, 4:48.42). Campbell took second in the 60-meter dash (6.73). Other highlights: the Distance Medley Relay team placed 4th, and Donovan Castillo (400 meters, 47.56) and Kiana Van Haaren (long jump, 5.72 meters) also placed 4th.
Up Next
The Bears will make the short trip to Colorado Springs, Colo. on Dec. 13 for the UCCS Pre Holiday Invite. The two-day event is hosted by the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and will take place at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse.
