BOULDER CITY, Nev. — Timbre Shehee crushed Northern Colorado women's golf 54-hole record at the Clash at Boulder Creek – hosted by Northern Arizona – at Boulder Creek Colf Course (par 72/6,334 yards) Monday and Tuesday.
"When the new rankings come out tomorrow Timbre will be the highest ranked player in the Big Sky Conference, which is really strong this year," UNC Director of Golf Clayton Sikorski said. "It's so cool to see Timbre's success this fall. Timbre works tirelessly on her craft and has gotten better year after year here at UNC. She has taken a massive leap and I envision her getting her first college win in the spring."
Shehee placed third with her career-best 14-under par. The junior from Mead, Colorado, opened with a 66 in Monday's first round, matching the school's 18-hole record. She eagled the 531-yard, par-5 13th and added five birdies. In the afternoon round, Shehee posted three birdies for a 69 and moved up one spot on the final leaderboard with a 67 Tuesday. She capped off the record setting 202, with five birdies over the final round.
In the team standings, the Bears entered the final round in a loaded field in ninth and remained in that position and tied with Tarleton State, with a 2-under par (287-289-286—862), smashing the previous UNC team best 880. The Bears trailed UC Riverside for eighth by one shot and bested Illinois State in 11th by one swing.
"Overall, a fantastic week," Sikorski said. "Really proud of the entire team for what they have done this fall. We have achieved our highest ever ranking at 157 in the country and we will continue to improve. We have gotten better in every event, which is what you are looking for as a coach. Credit to the girls and coach Tina Barrett for their work. We have a great mix of experience and youth who have contributed all fall."
Samantha Columbine tied for 48th with 219. The freshman from Tabasco, Mexico, carded rounds of 71 and 77 on Monday before turning in a 71 in the final round, with a trio of birdies.
Jaci Hartman gained 11 spots Tuesday, with a 71, highlighted by three-straight birdies, including a four on the 540-yard, par-5 16th hole. The rookie from Burneyville, Oklahoma, ended up with a share of 52nd place after opening the event with a 76-73—149 Monday.
Carolina Fallotico and Kailey Bass closed out the scoring for the Bears in a seven-way draw for 74th.
Fallotico tallied an eagle and nine birdies and carded 76-72-78—226. Bass posted scores of 74-75-77—226, with five birdies.
"The future is bright for the Bears," Sikorski said.
San Francisco captured the team title with a 41-under 823, while Fresno State's Vunnisa Vu claimed the individual crown with a 15-over-par 201 (66-68-67).
The Bears return to action in the spring for the championship portion of their slate.
