GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado took No. 13/14 Weber State to the wire in a close 28-21 setback Saturday afternoon at Nottingham Field.
The Bears scored on their first offensive series of the game when Jacob Sirmon orchestrated a six-play, 75-yard drive, which cumulated with a six-yard touchdown pass to tight end Kyle Helbig.
Sirmon tossed his second touchdown pass to tight end Fisher Clements at 13:28 in the second quarter.
David Afari scored on a 28-yard rush at 4:44 in the second quarter and the Bears went into halftime with a 21-7 lead.
After a scoreless third quarter, WSU scored three touchdowns in the final seven minutes to narrowly close out the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
HEAD COACH ED LAMB
"We played well for over three and a half quarters but couldn't finish the game. We played hard and the effort was there, and mistakes hurt us. Football is a game of 60 minutes and we played for 54 minutes. The reality of it is if Sirmon and his receivers didn't play well up to this point, it wouldn't be this painful. To the very end, it was back-and-forth momentum and big plays happened on both sides."
