Bears Fall to No. 10 Kentucky

GREELEY, Colo. – University of Northern Colorado dropped a 3-1 (22-25, 14-25, 25-22, 14-25) decision against No. 10 Kentucky at Bank of Colorado Arena Saturday.
Kentucky (1-1) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage at the break, before the Bears (0-2) clawed back into the match with a third set victory. The Wildcats cruised to the victory in the fourth game to clinch the victory.
In set one, the teams traded the lead three times, with eight draws in the early going. Neither side led by more than three during the game. Even at 20-20, the Wildcats closed with a 5-2 spurt and secured the early advantage.
Knotted at 6-6, Kentucky opened a 10-point advantage behind an 18-8 run, moving to set point. An attack error by Northern Colorado closed out the game, pushing the Wildcats in front 2-0.
After the break, the teams traded rallies, knotting the score 13 times, with five lead changes. The Bears held Kentucky to a match low .184 hitting percentage, with five of its nine attack errors occurring over the final 11 rallies. Even at 18-all, Northern Colorado capitalized on the miscues for the 25-22 victory.
Kentucky jumped out to an 11-5 cushion in the final game, forcing a timeout by the Bears. Unable to slow the Wildcats down, Northern Colorado called another stoppage in play at 17-8. The Wildcats continued their pressure and cruised to the victory.
