PREVIEW: Bears Set for First Road Test Against Colorado State

GREELEY, Colo. - Northern Colorado Volleyball will hit the road for the first time in the 2026 season, traveling to Fort Collins to take on in-state rival and Pac-12 opponent Colorado State on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 6 p.m. inside Moby Arena.
The match up marks the first road contest of the season for the Bears, who enter the contest looking to bounce back following a 3-1 setback against UC Davis in their season opener Saturday night.

LAST TIME OUT: Northern Colorado opened the 2026 campaign with a strong start against UC Davis, taking the opening set 25-20 behind a balanced offensive attack and a .258 team hitting percentage. The Aggies responded by winning the next three sets, claiming the match 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18). Alayna Tessena led the Bears offensively with 11 kills while adding seven digs and a block. Maddie Rink and Gillian Walton each contributed seven kills, while Summer Snead and Leila Ballard added five apiece. Setter Nerea Alvarez Jorge finished with four kills and 27 assists, while Bella LePore paced the defensive effort with 16 digs. As a team, UNC recorded 39 kills, 57 digs and four service aces while hitting .178 for the match.
IN-STATE SHOWDOWN: The Bears will look to carry momentum from last year's match up with the Rams into Tuesday's contest. Northern Colorado defeated Colorado State in a thrilling five-set battle inside Bank of Colorado Arena last season, rallying for a 3-2 victory (23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 15-12). Tessena was a key contributor in the victory, recording 15 kills and three blocks. UNC enters Tuesday's match up riding a five-match winning streak against the Rams.
SCOUTING COLORADO STATE: Colorado State enters Tuesday's match up at 1-1 after opening the season at home in Moby Arena. The Rams swept UC Davis, 3-0, on Aug. 28 before falling to No. 11 SMU, 3-1, on Aug. 29.
UP NEXT: Following Tuesday night's match up, the Bears will continue their road trip with a trip to Boulder to compete in the Colorado Classic starting on Friday when the Bears face New Mexico at 3 p.m. MT.
